Stop Walking

to Marcy Howard

It’s hard, to walk, among the living, If, you are, the walking dead,
The soul, inside, torn and tattered, looking down, never ahead,
People say, the past, is gone, that the past, doesn’t matter,
Wonder, if, they’d say, the same, if fantasy land, would shatter.

Blame, is never, the issue, for, everyone, plays their part,
Though walking away, is easy, it only, deadens your heart,
You, can search, for answers, but where, will you look,
If, in your life, you never gave, the heart, you willingly took.

But even, on, those darkest days, a thought, can ease, your mind,
If, you concentrate, on what, you have, not things, that you may find,
I held, love, in my arms, and had, to watch her die,
And as, she took, those labored breaths, I let, this angel fly.

Though, it might, sound absurd, I’d, given up on life,
Yet, another, angel came, caring for my wife,
Twice, I’ve, been touched by love, yet twice, there’s no one, to hold,
As, a darkness, grows inside, and this heart, just feels cold.

Hold on, to things, you have, before it becomes, something lost,
For if, you struggle, to believe, a living heart, will be, the cost,
You’ll think of, the love you have, each and every day,
But, no answer, can be found, if, you only, walk away.

Holding on to you, Love lives
