Not going out

To those with Agoraphobia

#16

Window sun warms my face,
Gently spreading happiness
Heating embers of happier times.
I close the blinds to shut it off.
Pain too lurks in the ashes.

But it finds me.
épées of light jab me through thin wooden ribs,
I crave, but don’t deserve it’s kindness.
Not yet. My exile not yet done.

For now I dwell in darkness, unseeing, unknowing, unravelling my former self.
Healing in the safety of the shade,
Licking lacerations.

No floating clam to transport me to the mortal realm.
I will step out and face the sun.
No empty wretch, but a stronger man.
Unyielding.

Keep at it
