The Wedding

My darling young daughter, who’s always with me,
Is about to leave home, I must set her free.

She’s moving out, into the unknown,
I must let her go - there’s always the phone.

Rory says, “don’t worry, she is now grown up.”
He gives me a smile and says, “hand me your cup.”

She’s upstairs getting ready, her friends are all here.
I hear chatter and laughter, they sound full of cheer.

It’s now almost time to leave for the church.
As I go to the kitchen, my heart gives a lurch.

“Mum!” I look up. It’s Tess on the stair.
“You look beautiful,” I say, and then Rory is there.

He puts his arm round me, and holds me tight.
We both smile at Tess, she’s a beautiful sight.

I sit in the church with family and friends,
The music starts up and the chattering ends.

The organ rings out, Here Comes The Bride,
And Rory looks proud as he stands by her side.

Ted is smiling at Tess and as they get near,
The love in his eyes becomes very clear.

Now they are married, I hope they will be
As happy as we are, my Rory and me.
