this cold pervasive slick of jealousy
this blast of foaming envy,
the choke hold grip of the monster
its two emerald jewels that glare
the inflated egos that perish in light
grasp at what can’t be earned
icy tendrils claw a relentless trail
as they fuel their own rage incurred
a vortex that sends periphery spinning
encourages ire to slowly rotate
and like a catapult tossing detritus flying
cursing reason comes to the fore too late
the sound smacks of acrid anticipation
your mood lays waste to a sensible rest
foul tempers flare up in a self flagellation
and words get chosen and thrown in protest
blue eyes shine with a green torched beam
an ocean of envy your raft shall sail
your own worst enemy you choose to be
your life’s work and a revered holy grail,
