love will only break your heart

lurid, it shanks the body of my resolve,
overpowering the apathy it breathes,
verve is gone, steps creak heavy,
erstwhile lovers hang a foul effigy.

walls covered with the rage of silence,
its an I’ll wind, acrimony creeps as fog,
lubricating feathered memories, fly,
lost, might the lovelorn reap again.

over time the draw of desire sings,
notched upon the skeleton I drape,
loose moods away in the breeze of ire,
yes, an affirmation too close to fake.

before the shackles of love rust and rot,
remorse that drills its way to valour,
eases a true path, a course of heart,
akin to none but the empty, hollow,
keepsakes rest, a trove of reflection.

yesterday is yours to review at will,
obscure deceit filters as thawing ice,
usurped anger replaced with confusion,
rambling emotive reminiscence, sobs.

hearts impinged now fade from view,
ethereal angst a regime, a diet of woe,
aftershocks still ripple through the air,
restless sleep, they permeate still,
tired love of long ago, rest well.
