I Am A Soldier
A young soldier on the battlefield has been lost
bullets raining down on him at truly what cost
saying bye to his loved ones that he has left behind
are one of the many memories fading in his mind
as he hits the ground he looks up at the beautiful night
and then closes his eyes and sees a glimmering light
Zach was only seventeen when he joined the Canadian force
not knowing that is where his life would take its final course
he did great in school and could have had a lot of jobs to do
but he wanted to be like his father, a soldier who died when
Zach was only two
people like his friends tried to convince him not to go
and now he says in his final seconds as he holds the
blood flow
“I am a soldier and to me that is no sin
i fight for the country that I was born in
others look at me as a man with no fear
thinking i was not scared that death
would be so near
but truly i cried every single day
hoping i would make it to my flight
home in may
but my life will now be put on pause
and people will ask me in heaven
for what cause
and i will say out loud
that is what would make my father proud!”
