trees

i think i know why the grooves of our fingers
match the grooves on a leaf
and the grass and the trees around me
watching, observing.
as above, so below
the grass feels my steps
as i trample its work.
the trees wave as i walk by
do we ever stop to wave back?
how many leaves and trees and little things have i ignored?
they probably think ill of us
humans unable to plant our roots
make connections, feel seen, feel heard
trees have no problem with that
they share their food, nutrients running through their roots
i think i want to be a tree
