a train doesn’t ride on a race car track

a train and a car both have wheels and a track
with a form and a function designed for their knack
and while a crowd full of people stare in awe and cheer
for fast shiny cars considered premier
a train would watch and shake with fear
to imagine its life in that atmosphere.

the train travels its distance alone through the night
because for it, the hard work takes place out of sight
unlike the mighty racer blazing a fiery trail
if the train road those circles it would be bite its own tail

but they’ll understand
not a fail, just offhand
to derail a train and expect it to land
because while a train and a car both have wheels and a track
with form and function designed for their knack
they ride at different speeds
have different maintenance needs
required for them to perform and succeed.

a train doesn’t ride on a race car track
or highways, or lakes, or the air
but imagine the places a train could go
if there were train tracks everywhere.
