Prisoner

PRISONER

When day is dark as night,
How do you see?

When your body slumps,
Meek and tired,
How do you stand?

When the tears flow over nothing,
How do you smile?

I feel my soul gaze into the distance,
Longing for a peace that seems impossible.

My heart grows heavy and sags
Deep within my chest.

My breaths become shallow
With each daunting thought.

I am help captive to my pain
My soul weak from the monster
Growing inside of me.

It claws for freedom
Against my fragile skin.

Leaving scars that remain hidden.

It pushes so boldly
Through my tears

A puddle of sadness
Lay still in my hand.

Spat from realistically,
Nothing.

But the pain in my own heart,
That blazes with each dying breath.

I am a prisoner to my own mind,
My soul held captive by my own pain.
