Inktober Writer's Edition Day 1 Prompt: Dream
I know too well that where I sleep
a beast lingers in the dark.
Mild and meek, it continues to weep
for my sake; for my dying spark.
But alas I am clueless to the beast’s bleeding heart
for I dream of many sweet things.
Like beginnings anew, a clean, fresh start;
I live like those regal kings.
The world is too cruel, I decided back then.
No mercy exists in this place.
So, with one last prayer, a quiet amen
I performed my coup de grace.
Now I relish this fleeting moment I’ve made;
I delight in my own reality.
But alas, the beast has revealed its blade
and has come to bestow my finality.
Yet I still dream of this lovely life,
a world where I am content.
But I’ve chosen my fate, I’ve drawn the knife
and I leave with the beast’s last lament.
