Should I Depart This Life, Still Breathing

based on Flogging Molly's If I Ever Leave This World Alive.

Should I depart this life, still breathing,
Gratitude for your love, unceasing.
Should I exit this world, heart beating,
I’ll return, by your side, peace seeking.

In every place, your essence lingers,
Beyond mere thought, felt by spirit’s fingers.
Should fate call me, life’s transient singer,
I’ll leave, yet stay, as love’s quiet whisperer.

Should I wander from this earthly sphere,
I’ll carry the sorrow, the silent tear.
Should I drift away, leaving you here,
The chaos you feel will fade, never fear.

So promise me, no tears will you weep,
I’ll be close, in the dreams of your sleep.
Should I vanish into the cosmic deep,
I’ll be the secret your heart will keep.

Call out to me, when shadows draw near,
Before madness whispers, before you fear.
If I should leave, remember, my dear,
I may stay in this world, holding you clear.

She assures, “I’m fine, I’m whole,”
Though you’ve sailed from my soul.
You promised peace would take its toll,
Now all should be well, that is the goal.

Too many words to say a last goodbye,
To the love that taught me to fly.
In this farewell, there’s no need to cry,
For in your heart, I will never die.
