The Hole in Your Heart

An Original Song

It was 1987 when you had a baby girl.
9 pounds and 12 ounces, she was your whole world.
Every moment with her went by way too fast.
And you didn’t know in 23 years, it would be your last.
2 years later when I met you, the night I learned your name,
It soon became so clear to us that I was sent to help the pain.

And I know I can’t replace her; no one ever could.
But I can fill a little of the hole in your heart that never even should’ve happened to you.

I know the pain you felt almost killed you too.
I’m so glad you chose to walk away from the hell that wanted you.
‘Cause you never would’ve had the chance to walk me down the aisle.
That filled a void for both of us and I know it made her smile.

I know I can’t replace her; no one ever could.
But I can fill a little of the hole in your heart that never even should’ve happened to you.

She surrounds you with the love of Jesus.
She loves you through me.
She’s proud of you no matter what you do.
She waits for you with a heart of patience.
She knows you, she sees you, she misses you.

And I know I can’t replace her; no one ever could.
But I’m so glad you let me come into the hole in your heart that never even could completely go away.
But I know it will someday..
When you see her face to face.

I wrote this song in February 2023 for the couple who are like a 2nd set of parents to me. They lost their only daughter in a car accident in 2011. A decade ago, when I met them and we became such a big part of eachother's lives, we filled a void for eachother in that they didn't have a daughter anymore and I had "lost" my dad to Alzheimers. While my dad was and still is living, he forgot who I was and has been bed-ridden for years.
