Equality
The word is foreign to me.
So what does it mean?
It’s something I’ve never seen.
The world tries for it.
But no one is willing to break their ties for it.
So much hate, we’ll never get there.
It isn’t fair
But when is it ever?
Never
Judgement, Hate, Prejudice
Un-equal, Un-lawful, just put it to rest.
Because what does it matter if two men are in love?
Enough is enough I thought we’d risen up.
Apparently not
It’s not as easy as we though.
Our beliefs, Our opinions, they have us in a choke hold.
We can’t think for ourselves we believe what we’re told.
Not me, I’m free.
I do and say as I want.
I stand up for those you torture and taunt.
And to those men and women who are gay,
I say,
Have a great wedding day.
Because like me you are human, a creation of God.
None of us perfect, we are all flawed.
So why are some taunted and others not?
There’s only one definition of right, that’s what we are taught.
But in my eyes the definition comes to life.
I look in the faces of the white, the colored, the straight, the gay.
And I see perfection.
A true reflection
Of what we can be.
It’s all so clear to me
How much more simple can it be.
Live and let live
However they want.
Their beliefs, their sexuality
It’s theirs to flaunt.
Not mine and not yours
Pure or impure
I’m sure
They have the right
To live as they want.
Husband with husband
Or wife with wife.
Black with white
It’s just as right
Because we’re all here for the same things
So open you’re hearts and spread your wings
Because we are all perfect in one way or another
So why hate each other?
Join together and overcome
The struggles we face
Our generation has just begun.
