Our Generation

Deny it all you want, but we all want to fit in.

Subconsciously conform to the norms of this world we’re forced to live in.

Women degrade themselves, in hopes of getting “respect”

Hatred spews from those who are supposed to provide and protect.

Humanity is upside down,

We quietly wait for a hero.

Someone to turn this around,

While we stick to what we know.

No one steps up in fear of being rejected,

We all claim it’s, “not our problem” because we aren’t directly affected.

Our emotion, our expression has been stripped by technology

But no one sees a problem in a world where a sad face emoji is equivalent to an apology.

A world where legitimate interaction is a rarity

A world where "1 like=1 prayer" is considered charity.

A world where thoughts aren’t important if they’re not liked or retweeted.

Where your Facebook friends have to first approve everything

Where admitting you’re a virgin at 16 is embarrassing.

So sit in front of your screens, dully waiting for the hero you anticipate

Meanwhile, I’ll be that hero; Morality’s only advocate.
