San Diego Night Owl Pride

Echoing chirps of crosswalks,
Bouncing off parking lot pavements,
Accompanied by the essence of water in the air,
The soothing solitude of a car,
humming at an empty four-way intersection,
With the gleaming golden tint,
From the adjacent gas station’s fluorescents.
Left hand out the window,
Tracing whisps of the atmosphere,
Feeling ever more secure in this time and place,
Listening to Primus and turning up the bass.
Contemplating the past, present, and future,
Still anticipating that California burrito,
from the taco shop across the way,
Smiling and hitting record with her brain,
She savors every sense from this 1:00 am scene
At the close of her day,
As the light turns green,
and the accelerator takes her away.
Late night viewing of The Great Gatsby turned late night drive and meal.
