He Said

3/28/2018

He said he wanted to be with me
He said “I want us to work”
He said “stay the night with me”
He said let’s just be friends
He said “no we won’t work I decided this is not what I want, no this is too much”
He said we should get drunk
He said we should still spend the night
He said I should stop being so attached
He said we shouldn’t talk
He told me we needed to get over each other
I told him I’m not okay and he said he isn’t either
He must obviously hide it better than me
But he said we didn’t have to be apart forever
He told me one day
And he told me he didn’t like cigarettes
So when one day if he decides being separate is over
When one day he remembers how I felt
How I made him feel
One day when he wants to taste my lips again
One day I hope he tastes the cigarettes that I put on my lips to replace his
I hope he tastes the cigarettes I used to fill my lungs and scream his name in fire
I hope he tastes the cigarettes I used to keep my hands warm when he couldn’t hold them
And when he tastes the cigarettes I’ve put on my lips
I hope he tastes the anger I hold on my mind
In my body
For him
Just for him
