margot and me

after reading the short story,
I was asked what
it meant to me.
“What does the rain represent?”
I don’t know.
“How do you relate to Margot?”
I don’t.
and I’m always somewhat renounced
when I make decisions like these.
apparently I’m being ignorant,
and very obstinate.
But Margot is very
tragic, she really has it rough.
And looking back on it all,
I’ve had it pretty good.
It would be selfish of me
to claim that I related to
her.
If Margot were to
write her story,
she would make most
readers cry.
for hers is very sad.
so she makes sure we
all know it’s very sad.
she writes with full
knowledge of her tragedy.
she even emphasizes it.
But I cannot
relate to these kinds
of writers.
When you find your
melody,
you must write it so plain,
and with a perfectly purposeful
ignorance about itself.
don’t be too proud
don’t be too self-involved
be sure you are not doused in self-love
if it is true
it will sit
by itself
