The Watch

Be on the watch
There is a God
And there is a Devil
Both are calling you
Only you, and no one else
And the problem isn’t that most people answer the Devil
The problem is that most people don’t answer to either of them.
They feel quite clever
And pull a cover over their eyes.
And abscond with neither
God nor the Devil in hand.
And off they walk alone.
And that is when you die.
That is when you become John Smith who married Jane Smith
For a little while.
Or George Bowman who works at Fox Ledge,
And has never made anybody really, really, feel anything.
Or Alex Somebody
Who can barely hold a job at Nobody’s Association.
That is when you become a shade.
But you are never bound to this existence.
For no one cares about you like this.
God has never stopped calling,
Lucifer is always offering you new schemes,
And new ways out.
Be on the watch.
You must choose a side.
Heaven or Hell.
Be someone.
If you don’t know how, find out.
Leave behind these traces of infectious nothingness.
Start small.
Say something to somebody.
Do something that you won’t be forgotten by everybody.
And when death comes, make it kill you.
Don’t be one of those fools who just dies.
