Lady Poem

Lady Poem

It seems many lifetimes ago
In a place unknown, never seen
A wild-hearted woman I came to know
The incomparable of all women

And love embraced the passion
That came on me, unbidden, unseen
I found myself bound by my boundless need
My need for the gentle touch
And just to know her, let her breaths and soul
Washed all my sins clean

Cold hearted evil, made me flee
To icy fields from pastures green
And jealous anger forced me away
And now tormented by memories
Of what once could have been
Of what will not now be
But once could have been

Heart and soul, kidnapped and lost
And set adrift, storm-tossed and lean
Cannot say nor see the reason
Nor begin to fathom what it may mean
And while the wind might rage and howl
To me it but whispers her name.

And love her I do, though it be mad
Though it cuts, a blade far to keen
Oh the ecstatic agony to have known her
And from her be cruelly weaned
Not for Heaven nor Hell will I renounce my love
My love for her.

Stand now helpless and exposed
Let the driven snow wash me clean
Crawling on torn and bleeding knees to
Beg forgiveness
For in haste and insanity, I have spurned
The untasted depths but briefly seen
Sweet Christ I do so wish I had not walked
If it could be undone I would have run
Into her arms.
