Poem: Goodbye
Goodbye to you from my empty heart
Silence now echos through this gloomy empty place
The birds fly through the sky’s empty space
I know the moment when the peace inside me died
I know why my heart aches and I often have cried
I understand my heart as it is going away
I understand because I have so little to say
Time passes, people do change and we drift apart
But I still love you much as I did from the very start
To give up, say a goodbye, things never the same
Cut my losses and take all the blame knowing that
I treated you so badly, I was bitter, unkind and cruel
So many little things we did together so simple yet fun
I remember when first I saw you and you were the one
Problems seemed very easy to fix with you by my side
You laughed at my jokes and I understood when you cried
When I held you close I felt completely safe, no fear
When times were hard or tough we would laugh and say
There is nothing we cannot do if we are together
Now I have lost you, my heart’s friend
I felt the words I read like knives each time we fought
I used to seem to know what you felt or thought
Without you life seems empty,
From here and in heaven I ask God for a new start
Goodbye to my friend, for my love for you comes from deep in my heart.
