Gratitude is what’s needed
The “winners” in life
gravitate toward
places like
Sanibel Island,
Florida.
With a comfortable house,
and perhaps a boat,
and one nice car (at least)
life must have been very nice
on an island
most residents
considered to be
“paradise.”
And yet Nature is
the great equalizer
on this blue marble
that all of us share.
When the storm passed through,
it didn’t matter what
your bank account was.
The more a person had,
the more they stood to lose,
and some have likely
lost everything.
If ever we needed it,
it was a reminder
to be grateful
wherever we live
for all the things
we have today.
For Nature has just
served notice
of how fragile
and fleeting
everything
on this marble
really is.
