In Praise of the Sidewalk Cafes
The cafes are always ready
To serve their guests a meal
Or sometimes just a drink will do
Their setting is most ideal.
Passing away an hour, sometimes more
In casual conversation
Helps us to enjoy our lives
Regardless of our station.
In Lisbon and in Paris, too
And cities everywhere
We’re glad to have some place to go
And meet companions there.
