The Temporarily Closed Island
It starts off at the lighthouse
at the eastern tip of the island
and continues all along Periwinkle Way:
Shell Island Beach Club
Sea Winds Cottage
Lazy Flamingo
and on and on and on.
It’s April, and by now
the portion of the Spring Break crowd
that knows enough to avoid
the more well-known party locations
should be in the middle of
their annual sojourn to this island
which many people think of as “paradise.”
But these businesses, and untold others
that don’t show up on Google maps
aren’t yet ready to conduct any business.
Some of these places may never come back again,
despite the valiant efforts of those
who have operated them through the years.
Now that Nature has asserted its dominance,
all of the tennis courts and swimming pools
and dream homes of all shapes and sizes
will need to be restored.
The businesses could follow after that.
