What Lincoln said about Roses
Abraham Lincoln was our first poet-president
who really knew how to turn a phrase,
but the best one of all has to do with roses:
“We can complain that rose bushes have thorns,
or we can celebrate that thorn bushes have roses.”
Their indescribably sweet smell
and the beauty of their blooming flowers
Are indeed worthy of a celebration.
