Each Moment An Eternity

Each Moment An Eternity

We must not make the same mistakes
As in the white-heat days of youth,
Tortured longings, great heart-breaks,
When nothing came the soul to soothe.
Is it over now, the passion-dance
As the need for all possessions dies
With the questionable word or glance,
Unbearable romantic ties?
Calm is not established yet
And the descent of peace is slow,
But all the seekers I have met
Along the path on which we go
Turn not from rock-strewn roads nor stray
Into nirvanic space, refuse
The challenge and deny the play
For a far heaven, earth to lose.
Each day is gold, the singing wind
Chants a dream of the positive
And all our faults the gods rescind
For those who in the present live
Each moment, an eternity
Of possibles, our lives to give.
We hear on earth a bird’s sweet trill
And cataracts of beauty fill
The valleys and the gulfs we knew
When mind was all, the soul asleep.
We learn among the realized few
Our life, our love, is God’s to keep.
