September Day

A song of lost love

When the sun rose it was grey on that September day, it seemed that life had drained away, with nothing to look forward to, until the clouds broke and you said that you would stay.

The sun then shone, my doubts drifted, and my heart was lifted on that September day. The air then clear, we saw no fear, in those far off views across the river to the hills, and we walked together down the lane, on that September day.

The future seemed bright, in that September light, as together we saw the sight of our favourite tree upon the hill, where once we had promised each other so much, that time now seems strangely out of touch, on this quiet September day.

Memories recall those times before the fall, when we both thought we knew what it was all for, we had worked it out, we had no doubts on that September day. Together we said that we’d’ follow that thread, it would take us both far away to better times and other places where the sun always shines.

We both had fun; we would chase and run in the cold clear air, everything was fair, all things set, and the future secure, it was what we got together for. But it did not work out, when for an unknown reason you were made to step out, just left me there pulling my hair out.

A darkness fell which took a hold of me, I try, but it’s difficult to see, and that future has gone away from me, it’s a different light that’s now looking down on me, and from way above, beyond the flight of the dove, is the last promise of our love.

(2006)

When the one you love is taken from you, you're world collapses and life take on a different hue
So much was lost, the future smashed, all hopes dashed, just the memory remains, but love does transcend even this, and hope becomes the beacon
