Me the Self

Me the self, my precious self,
of blood and flesh and wit,
perfect creation of man,
the treasure of treasures,
fighting for my preservation,
walking on my sturdy legs
with no crutches,
standing alone
on my selfish island
in pursuit y excellence;
no helping hands, no counsel,
just me and my solitary thoughts,
my egocentric desires,

fighting for survival in a crisis
on my selfish island
with half a mind on charity,
half a mind on self preservation,
the Godly mind, the charitable one,
the guilty mind, the selfish one,
the reassessment of my goals,
the wrestling with ideals,
the climbing up the mountain or not,
the Godly, taking humanity with me,
or the selfish, leaving them behind.

Before the annihilation of humanity,
who values someone else
more than he himself?
Who values someone as much?
Who is Jesus in the heart and soul?
What is the me standing alone
on my selfish island?

He who has abundance
in himself to give,
still has enough
In himself to keep.
