Passion Fire

The need to employ the talent within
with the team losing 101 to 99,
time for the last minute three pointer,
the summoning to the arsenal deep inside,
the reaching down to the idle engines,
filling them with fuel to enliven them,
to make them prance and kick their feet
and empower them to use the strength
to pull them through Dante’s ordeal,

to gather up the kindling wood
in preparation for the passion fire,
the ignition of the flame to drive the pistons,
to fuel the passion and send it surging
through the incendiary veins of the
intricate human network
in the body of man as the rivers of adrenaline
shall send the ball at the hoop
and good fortune will steer it through
as the God within works in his spirit,
giving him the talent and helping him to execute it.

Up through the blessed air the ball sails,
the same air anointed by the grace of God.
His hopes are written on his distorted face
as the ball nears the center of the rim.
His whole body smiles with that desperate shot
as it sails through the hoop with
him sailing with it with his pride
written all over his face.

His spirit grew wings to lift him up.
It brought him up to be with
the ancient spirits of the Roman Emperors,
the conquistadors of the seas,
and the ghosts of the departed champions
while he pranced and danced on earth
from his job well done.
Good game Mr. DiVincenzo.

I wrote this about the basketball game I saw last night, Knicks 104 76ers 101.
