Secrets in the Trees

Secrets stored inside as the seasons run,
a silent knowing of the roving sun,
encased in an armor of iron and wood,
in rigid vaults to the weather withstood,

secrets of the rising from low to high,
the lowest rung up the ladder to the sky,
a phenomenon of nature’s handiwork
as seasons call for vigilance on alert,

the bracing for the winter’s heavy frost,
when dreams of a fertile green become lost
and the leaves begin to lose their color
as they brood and look to one another,

a mandate from the commanding weather,
a change to one and all together
from a secret source from deep inside,
a botanical brain implanted as a guide,

a complex river of activity created
by the warmth of a soothing breath awaited
that knows when summer’s coming near
to start the flowing through channels clear.

Secrets in the trees are still a mystery
as the seasons roll on from heaven’s decree,
the lore of the forest ingrained in the wood
and the years gone by as they always should
in strict accordance to the seasonal commandments.
