Shady Lady

a Sonnet about drinking

My mistress is a lady of the night,
But I still love her when the sun rises.
Her mark still stays upon my head when light
Awakes me from the stupor she prizes.
She comes to me neither cheap nor easy.
She makes my blood run hot, my sweat flow cold
And when she’s gone I always feel queasy.
Her presence in my temple makes me bold
And irresponsible.  While lack of her
Warm grip inside will make me small.  There was
A time she was not there.  Oh Bitch! I’m sure
She would desert me if she could, because
My mistress lady is my liquid crutch.
She only hurts me when I drink too much.

(2000)

This is an actual Sonnet! I hate writing the classic poetic forms, but we were drinking, claims were made, bets were taken, etc.
