Random Chance Encounter

Well I met a man,
I had never knew,
His tales deep and dark,
Spoke of the few,
Who convinced him,
All was horrid and black,
To keep ears up,
And eyes closed for the attack,
To fear without listening,
To fear without knowing,
Where the wave would take you,
Or keep you from going,
To unite a people in fear,
Rather than sorrow,
Instead of less dead today,
They’ll be plenty dead tomorrow,
To look at the war,
And see black gold flowing,
To look at your brother,
But keep on going,

He clung to my arm,
Begging me blind,
What is the fate,
For all mankind?
He ran away screaming,
Crying as well,
That heaven don’t exist,
That this world is hell,
That when children can walk,
Blood stained and gun-strapped,
A few feet away,
Towards pale uneasy death,
With fat men and puppets,
Smoking in fine chairs,
Deep bright lights,
To disguise execution lairs,
We vote and we pay,
To see them face,
All the wrongs we see,
Yet cannot seem to change,

This, as I walked,
So sudden, so rough,
Made my brain think,
And my feet stop,
I’ve seen a man tremble,
In the face of a leader,
I’ve seen a leader fall,
By the hand of his people,
I’ve seen the tree catch fire,
And burn until morning,
With no one watching,
And everyone laughing,
I’ve seen a girl leave a man,
Who truly loved her,
I’ve seen a man hurt a girl,
Who didn’t know any better,
I’ve seen monsters,
In the darkest places,
I’ve seen the ghosts,
On the grayest graveyards,
I’ve seen God dance to the,
Devil’s fine strumming,
I’ve seen a man struggle,
For many long years,
I heard a song break through,
The dust in the morning,
It spoke to me straight,
Saying this warning,
“We humans have,
The same fears,
Made by opinions,
And many a long year…”
