A Breath

A breath in a moment
Takes a lifetime to some
When none after will be taken
Up above where they’re from.

A misplaced step
Is a simple fix,
unless you are sent
To the Devil’s bag of tricks.

A blink is a twitch
That misses nay a second,
Yet a lost wandering soul
Could by heaven be beckoned.

An instant could be the first of many,
Or the loss of life’s light.
Be conscious of each breath, step, or blink
Or succumb to every mortal’s fight.

(2015)

This poem is about how any moment in life that seems insignificant to some (a blink, a step, etc.) could be the final moment of someone else's life. The last stanza recognizes each of these little moments and states that we should never take any second of life for granted.
