Magnetized Mirrors

When you know all there is to know
And you decide to take a turn and take things slow,
Take a look in the mirrors as you go
They follow you everywhere as though they were magnetized
To follow you always and to whisper lies
There’s no disguise,
It shows you what you believe
You’re body imperfect, your face unclean
It shows the truth that you think you’ll see
But it holds only lies when it comes to me
I can see through, the imperfect truth
You’re beautiful, I’m beautiful
If you only knew
If you only saw, your eyes open in wonder and awe
But all you see is the flaws that make you feel
As though you weren’t worthy of anything real
You see yourself, as a horrible mess
Your beauty you never see and will never confess
You let the mirrors, and the words written on them get to you
They hold you down and torture you
And then they cut through
They shatter upon you, a rain of broken glass
It happens all too fast
And I’m too late
You’re broken and bleeding and being handed over to fate
I run to you and hold your face
My thumb runs along the tear stains
There’s too many to trace
You’re bleeding so bad, you’re soaked in red
The cuts run long and deep; I take some thread
I stitch you up, and make you whole
I fill your heart and heal your soul
I breathe life back into you and raise you up
You take your first breath and step, and that is enough
I kiss your lips and disappear
You look up at the mirrors but there’s nothing to fear
I washed the words away and made things clear
You see the imperfect truth
The truth of you
You’re all stitched up and made a new
You see the love that I gave to you
And you hold it close and let it shine through
You see you, bruised and scarred
But I’m there beside you to love who you are
You see and confess
The beautiful mess
The one who’s worth it
Is looking back at you in the mirrors of the imperfect
