Murder Victim

Am I just a statistic,
Another Abel,
Cain found me somehow,
My life was disabled.
Murder victim that’s what the news says,
What about the whole story...
I was more than this—a living breathing
Vibrant soul, with thoughts & dreams
I was an ordinary person,
A busy living breathing soul,
Not just a person playing this role,
I am more than my own murder,
But a person innocent as the white
Of the lamb I am separate from
This stain & cleansed from this shame,
I am now for eternity,
Paired with my murderer,
The tragedy we share,
One takes away,
One is taken,
The tragic event is imprinted onto the air,
What happened before the event,
Do people inquire or care?
Am I just another murder victim,
The before and after, not shared,
It’s time we look beyond the time in question
To celebrate entire life,
It began long before this incident of strife.
