Masterpiece

I’m a broken toy
Left in the sandbox when others had broken me down
And I was no longer considered 'fun’
Yet you lifted me up
And saw beauty within
Cleaned me up, fixed me up and made me a new
And I will always love you for this
But, with all these things, comes pain
I can never truly forget what’s been done to me
All these things, only you, seem to see plainly
Written all across my face
As well as across my whole body
The scars I have only become more noticeable to me
They don’t fade like most would do
But you don’t care
You trace them lovingly
As though they were a work of art
You touch me as though I were a masterpiece
So I will write a masterpiece for you
Coming straight from my heart and soul baby girl
You see me for who I am
Who I’ve always been
There’s no hiding what’s been done
I’m damaged goods
Yet you live for just a glimpse at me
You put me on your top shelf
While others threw me away
You gawk at me like I’m a prize
So I shall forever treat you as the savior you were to me
You are my everything
The sunlight that leaks through the leaves above me
The ones that sometimes just pile on me
You still shine through
And I feed off the strength of your light
My masterpiece
I will never forget the memories we share
I hope you never forget them too
I hope someday we can look back and laugh
At all the stupid shit we used to do
As teens, together you and me
Old and grey
With grandkids on our laps
Laughing at how we had to sneak around
How we fought so hard just to survive
I live for those future moments
It’s how I thrive
You’ve made me into a masterpiece
A masterpiece just for you
For your eyes only
For your love only
I ramble and rant
And so do you
But we enjoy just talking
No matter when, where, or with who
We simply live for the moments together
And I want that forever
So preserve me in your museum of thoughts
Keep me safe from harm
And I will do the same for you
Because you're my lucky charm
And for you I would write a thousand masterpieces
Yet even that wouldn’t be quite enough
I love you, and only you
My forever baby
