Deadly Contradiction

Once upon a time
In a land not so far away
In a time not too long from now
There is a certain person
And this certain person
For all intents and purposes
Wants to end their life
And people have the nerve to ask why
But there is no why
Just how
How this all came to be
How it bloomed into existence
How this certain person has no control over their life
How they try to distance
Themselves, from everyone and everything
So they can fade away without being a bother
All they feel is shame
There is no honor
Not as far as they can see
All their actions and decisions have led up to this
All their anguish just seeps
Out of every pore
Out with every tear
They’ve been screaming for so long
Yet there’s no one left to hear
And they chose to push everyone away
Just for their own sake
Just so they could end their life
Without anyone being in the way
And yet they yearn for someone
Anyone
To come and save the day
It’s a deadly contradiction
There is no satisfaction
Just a manipulative addiction
Just the latest fashion
And maybe all they need is one person to stay
And for that one person to not ask why
Rather hold them, and beg them to continue to try
Life isn’t easy
It doesn’t pay to dwell
On what doesn’t even matter
In the end you find your self worth
In the passions you gather
The things you do that you love
The people that make you smile
If you stop and pay close attention
Life really is worthwhile
And maybe this deadly contradiction
Can be cut off; not someday, but right now
If we stop asking why
And start asking how
How can I make a difference
How can I change how you see yourself
How can I lighten your burden
How can I save you from your own personal hell
I may not be able to take you to heaven
It’s too far for us to reach
But I can help lift you part way
And maybe together we can teach
One another to love again
To live again
To love to live again
And to love ourselves once again
