Away to Camp

To camp the scouts have gone today
Seems they are thousands of miles away;
We act as if we’re glad they’ve gone
But keep hoping nothing will go wrong.

Boys must be weaned from mom and dad
The very thought does make us sad;
We know we’re selfish–– mom and me
‘cause as they grow older–– so do we!

In the mountains or beside the sea—
Opportunities provided to learn to be;
Challenge is a part of life,
There’s adventure in overcoming strife.

Wonder if they sleep at night
Do their part–– do not fight;
Hope they eat the way they should
And others to them are very good.

We’re so glad that they could go
Grateful to Scouting that this is so,
Remembering when first as kids we went
Hoping theirs, too, will be sent.
