When curling vines failed to yield grapes at harvest,
twelve dancing Satyrs chased god Dionysos
through forest of shadows into oak grove
where gold-haired Apollon fired blazing arrow
that struck him down as divine sacrifice
so his rich blood fertlized roots of vines.

nullified need for any living man
