Numb

She drags her feet through the mud,
Each step more challenging than the previous.
Sinking deeper
Caught in the trap that is fear
Paralyzing her every more
Stunned by the pressure placed upon her

Thoughts race through her mind at a million miles per hour,
Disturbing her dreams.
Distractions, plentiful, persistent and pursuing

All of a sudden, she is immobile,
No longer able to pick her feet up
Stranded in a nightmare
Accompanied by visions of pain and suffering

Void of all feelings, desensitized to the burdens the world produces
Life, even though numb, is tolerable this way
Surrendering way easy, almost like she was preparing to hibernate for the duration of her life
And in the blink of an eye, she disappeared.
