A Quiet Mend

“The emotion that can break your heart is sometimes the very one that heals it."
~Anonymous

She sat expressionless, rocking her chair
Gazing out the window, one summer day
In the shadows, avoiding the sun’s glare
Thinking, hoping she were far, far away

In a place far from here she’d rather be
Over the hills where golden rivers run
Beyond sorrow, fears and anxiety
Where the edge of night dissolved by the sun

That’s where she was in the long distant past
When days were sun-filled and happiness reigned
The air was warm; bad weather never last
While showers came, only evenings it rained

She misses the fun, carefree days of youth
When her life was rosy and problem-free
Joyous freewheeling existence in truth
When did she lose that light and energy?

But soon her life turned mundane and doleful
From heaven, heartbreaks and regrets would fall
Sunrise, sunset no longer beautiful
Joy drained away, excitement left her soul

But surely she has not yet given up
And dreams of better, brighter days ahead
When blessings rain, overflowing her cup
And light returns where once the dark had spread

She breathes anew, gazing at the blue sky
Meditating while rocking in her chair
She dares once more to dream, to question why
To meet the promise in the morning air

She journeyed through the silence and the rain
From light to shadow, sorrow, then release
Yet still she stands, not broken by the pain
But mending quietly, and finding peace
