Ghosts

“There are memories that time does not erase...
Forever does not make loss forgettable, only bearable.”
Cassandra Clare, City of Heavenly Fire

Unhappy memories are ghosts, on dark nights
When we’re all alone, they visit to torment!
Tearing our hearts to pieces, as we lament;
They haunt and chastise, they’re cold as ice!

Pleasant memories are rays of the morning sun
They warm our hearts; they beget a smile
As we dream happy thoughts, all the while!
And they lighten our load until the day is done

But all our memories, unpleasant or otherwise
Remind us we still live, our hearts still beat
Our skin still feel, we can see with our eyes
Still we breathe; and life is sometimes sweet!
So let’s cherish our memories, they’re lullabies
After a night’s rest, a lovely morning, we greet!
