Caricamento in corso...

The Hurricane

Its outer bands, emissaries of destruction
A broad swath, it struck with merciless glee
Funnel clouds spawned, trees uprooted
Roofs blown, houses leveled with impunity!

Then the heavens gushed; sheets of rain from
Pregnant skies; fields of grain now a sea!
And the rivers rose above swollen banks;
Swift currents gave not even the rich, immunity!

Hundred miles south, the eye of the storm
With powerful sustained winds, it slammed ashore
With even mightier gusts, lifting a water wall
Toppling shuttered dwellings with a mighty roar

Boats found atop abandoned cars miles inland,
Avenues became rivers, street signs are no more;
Flood waters rise as torrential rains kept coming!
Devastation; disaster never seen before!

Yet from space, the storm looked benign
Even innocent; with puffy clouds, like cotton balls;
Swirling around an eye, a pinwheel quite beautiful
And across several hundred miles, it sprawls!

Alas! There’s danger in its beauty, from atop unseen
Its power leaves nothing standing, not even walls
Lives forever altered, futures compromised
The past just memories, whenever one recalls!
