When we met on that fateful night, beneath the cloudy sky,
surrounded by trees dancing in cool breeze,
I held your arm with trembling hands to assure you,
i will forever be like this, through moments thick and thin.
But your frozen hand and silent gaze told me a story much different.
I was tensed but my heart sensed that you would rather be distant.
The trees stood utterly still, for you to say something.
They could feel a great storm coming on,
its the calm before the storm,
a warning sign that i paid no heed.
All you said was “No, I can’t”; the storm made landfall.
My heart creaked like the limbs of the trees,
ripped away by the merciless gale,
leaving a scar deep within.
My soul shed a million tears yearning for you,
but they mingled with the rain leaving no clue for you.
I was shattered like a bird battered by the storm,
hanging by a thin line and battling to survive the storm.
But all you could see was a drenched me,
springing back to the normal life,
and gearing up for a second life,
with no evidence of the storm within.
