Chapters of us - Chapter 3

A faint orange glow rose over the horizon. Lilith, with blurred vision, and a fuzzy head, but hopeful, went to meet him. A known place, Lilith for reason felt she had seen this rooftop somewhere. Déjà vu perhaps.

Nemesis was already there, leaning against the wall. Lilith, felt reliefed. Seeing him safe, in fact seeing him at all washed all her guilt away. “Nemesis-”, she stared. The chill in the morning air didn’t explain the nervous tremor in her voice. “There’s a lot I need to explain-”, she started.

“Lilith”, He said, with a depressed tone. “There’s something you need to know”, he continued. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small, worn object. As he brought it closer to the light, the glint of metal caught Lilith’s eye. Her breath stopped. It was a familiar locket, the one she hadn’t seen in years—the one she’d given a fellow she couldn’t recall on their first date. “Looks familiar,” he said.

“Wait what...?” she hesitates, her voice barely can mutter any sound. A whirlwind of memories swirled in her mind. “Where had it been? How did you get it? Did it mean he still...?” she asked. Nemesis’s smile was slow and chilling, spreading across his face like a crack in the pavement. “Let’s just say,” he said, his voice dropping to an ominous tone, "It wasn’t just a coincidence, was it?”. “My love,” he followed, “Sometimes, you have to be your own hero, as sometimes, people you can’t live without, can live without you.”

“What do you—”, before she could finish her sentence, let alone blink, A sudden loud sound, shattered the morning quiet. The world gave Lilith a hand to save her from the fall. A piercing sensation felt across her chest, taking her breath away, Permanently.

Nemesis grew a grin. Slow and chilling. Shoved the locket through the bullet hole, into her heart. The world slowly faded, as nemesis, stood near the edge of the rooftop, wanting to jump.
