You've Asked Me What Love Is

You’ve asked me what love is, and my answer’s simple... I don’t know.
I wonder if it’s a feeling, an event, or an ache that always throbs and glows
I’m afraid to discover it, to let my heart be both captured and freed
I’ve been taught to hide in the shadows, it’s safer to be invisible than allowing yourself to be seen
It’s unreasonable to think someone can change that, I mean, I’m a dreamer... I’m not naïve
Life has enough fallacies in logic, it doesn’t need any new additions from me

You’ve asked me what love is, and I can’t help but wonder if the myths are really true
I wonder if its irresistible, all consuming, an instinct that is quietly bound, but never quite mute
I’m afraid to investigate it, to bear my mind, body, and soul
I’ve been taught to run away from commitment, it’s safer to rid yourself of “possibilities” than to be disappointed with no one to hold
It’s unreasonable to think someone can change that, I mean, I’m  a dreamer... I’m not naïve
Life has enough fallacies in logic, it doesn’t need any new additions from me.
