The Wedding

The nuptials was nice
and the bride was pretty,
out in the grove
on the edge of the city.

The sun was hot
but we had good shade,
as the old folks sat
and the young ones played.

It was definitely
a memorable affair,
with the scent of honeysuckle
in the air.

It got real
when the big dog showed,
she said chop chop
let’s get it on the road.

She was on the ball
and moving fast,
how y’all doing
is what she asked.

she had a plan
and it was laid out,
she wanted the best
for her senior sprout.

they stood on the porch
with the hounddog near,
and that’s when I hankered
for an ice cold beer.

they repeated the words
and then they connected,
and not a single witness
booed or objected.

they faced the crowd
and they looked so sweet,
and she said watch y’all waiting on
let’s go eat.

so we ambled over
to the standing feast,
only to find
no roast beast.

there was no green ham
nor eggs either,
to which I desired
to feed on neither.

but there was plenty
of boston butts,
which is ten times better
than any cold cutts.

so we ate and they danced
and took some pix,
and being in the cedars
I saw no ticks.

a good time was had
and I departed,
thanks to some folks
that’s nice and big hearted.

we all had fun
and there was much laughter,
and I wish them the best
and love ever after.:)
