Veteran
I’m not a veteran
but I know what they’ve done,
many times they’ve fought tyranny
and every time they’ve won.
From bunker hill in boston
to the battle of cowan’s ford,
they defeated the mighty cornwallis
who called himself a lord.
From the battle of new orleans
to the one at horseshoe bend,
their love for precious freedom
they all did defend.
And reading about those veterans
gives me a prideful thrill,
like teddy and his rough riders
charging san juan hill.
And during WWI where they fought
from trench to trench,
enduring poison gas
with it’s burning scalding stench.
And operation overlord
on that june day coded D,
they bravely crossed those beaches
just to keep us safe and free.
In the past and now lately
like they’ve always done,
they proudly defend our country
with their life and their gun.
And I thank all the veterans
on this their special day,
and I know we’d have no freedom
if it was not for they.
