Footprints

by Bryce McKay Weyerman

The footprints have ended.
Right here, right now.
Right now.
I think about pressing forward.
I think about my footprints and who will follow in them; and hope mine don’t just end as those did before me. But instead we come to walk side by side until they forge their own path and I slowly fade away in the distance.
I’ve run my race then; let me help you start yours. Maybe there is no end, but that does not mater and I will not reach it, but maybe you will.

This poem was my answer to "why? What's the point?" It's very much a sacrifice for the others who come after me, to enjoy the shade of the tree I planted.
