Cain

“And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him.” (Genesis 4:8 KJV)

I am called many names:
Murderer,
Evil,
Killer,
Sinner,
Yet even my parents call me Orphan.

Abandoned by all I know,
Outcast from the seed I grow.
In the field I till–
Abel’s blood spill,
Murder in the first degree.

My heart swell–
As my brother fell.
Sound the church bell,
Murder in the first degree.

My mind full of sorrow,
I wish not to wake tomorrow–
In my guilt and shame
I must bear a name,
Not: Killer, Evil, nor Orphan–
But,
Cain.
