When I Was a Child They Transplanted the First Artificial Heart; Now We All Have Artificial Souls

Relationships are built on trust
And the problem isn’t that we cyborgs
Don’t trust the other side
Which was always vanishingly rare
But that we don’t trust our own side
Leading first to homicide
Through murdering the other side
In a futile attempt to stay onside
Until, realizing the futility
There comes the suicide
Of killing our own side

Cyborgs don’t trust their own side
Not because they have replaced
A part of their bodies with tech
But because they have replaced their souls with tech

For having a soul
Means being able to hold
The other’s heart in your hand
But instead we cyborgs hold our phones
